Jim Forest on pilgrims & time

Among the many things pilgrims can leave behind is a wristwatch.  Those walking a pilgrim path know all they need to know about time from the length of their shadow on the ground. . . Pilgrims live in the freedom of a world without a minute hand. . . Truly clocks are among the primary symbols of our post-religious culture.
