Because I agree with Shelly that
Poetry lifts the veil from the hidden beauty of the world.
and because quotes like the following from N.T. Wright – which a creative and thoughtful friend who blogs here sent to me the other day – resonate with a deep, deep part of me:
Worship and stewardship, generating justice and beauty: these are the primary vocations of God’s redeemed people. And the habits of heart, mind, and life to which we are called are designed to form us, gradually and bit by bit, into people who can, with the hard-won ‘second nature’ that we call virtue, freely and gladly take forward these tasks.
and also because poems often make me think,
and, finally, because I simply love poetry in general, and like a great many individual poems specifically.
